Raiders Draft: Jabril Cox’s Coverage Skills Warrant Day 2 Selection
The Las Vegas Raiders could possibly go linebacker in the first round at this month’s NFL draft. However, LSU’s Jabril Cox could easily fill that hole in the second or even third round.
A popular theory that’s floating around is regarding linebacker Micah Parsons and the possibility of him dropping. He’s seen as a can’t-miss prospect that if he were to fall to 17, the Raiders would have to call his name. However, the team desperately needs a starting right tackle at the moment. Picking up Christian Darrisaw or Teven Jenkins is a more likely scenario right now for Las Vegas. If tackle’s the route on Day 1, the Silver and Black could pick up Cox on Day 2, that would still be a fruitful haul.
The other Raiders scenario that’s picked up steam is the one surrounding Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah, a possible linebacker pick in the first round. While he’d certainly be an interesting pickup, Cox’s coverage abilities are impressive and would greatly benefit Gus Bradley’s defense. He has a nose for the football, his nine interceptions and 23 pass breakups are evidence of this. He’s literally always around making plays, something the Raiders desperately need. Cox also knows how to get to the quarterback, he accumulated 15 sacks and 39 tackles for a loss in his college career.
