Raiders Could Consider Trading Darren Waller, Hunter Renfrow

After a disastrous 2022 NFL season, the Las Vegas Raiders are entering what could be a major offseason full of change. One change that we all expect to happen is the franchise moving on from quarterback Derek Carr. Who they will bring in to replace him remains to be seen, although Tom Brady has been mentioned quite a few times as a potential target.

However, the Raiders could also be looking at making much more widespread changes. Among those changes could be trades involving one or both of Darren Waller and Hunter Renfrow.

That news came from a report by ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, who noted that many teams around the league are monitoring whether or not the two offensive weapons will become available.

Could The Raiders Actually Trade Waller, Renfrow?

Last offseason, there were a lot of rumors swirling that Waller could be on the move. The biggest rumor was that the Green Bay Packers were wanting to trade for him. Instead, the Raiders chose to lock Waller up to a new long-term contract.

If Waller does become available, he would have a very hot market. In the right situation, he has proven that he can be among the league’s best tight ends. Renfrow is a great possession wideout that would be of interest to quite a few wide receiver needy teams.

During the 2022 season with the Raiders, Waller ended up playing in just nine games. He caught 28 passes for 388 yards and three touchdowns. Obviously, the numbers and games played were concerning, but he is still 30 years old with some good years left in him.

Renfrow played in 10 games and had a down year as well. He racked up 36 receptions for 330 yards and two scores. Last season, however, Renfrow accumulated 1,038 yards and nine touchdowns on 103 receptions.

Making these two players available would likely mean that the Raiders struck out on adding a quarterback upgrade. If they could get a guy like Brady, they would want to hang on to all their weapons. They could look to trade one or both of these guys if they can’t add a difference maker under center.

Expect to see the Raiders end up being one of the most active teams in the upcoming NFL offseason. Missing the playoffs was a massive disappointment and moving on from Carr could signal a rebuild. It will be extremely interesting to see which route Las Vegas chooses to go.
