Raiders add LB Kenny Young, acquire QB Jarrett Stidham

The Raiders and their new braintrust of head coach Josh McDaniels and general manager Dave Ziegler continue to add to their roster in addition to their six player draft class. This week, the Raiders have added former Rams LB Kenny Young, and on Thursday, Ziegler struck a deal with his former team to bring in QB Jarrett Stidham, a developmental signal-caller who will have a chance to continue his career in McDaniels’ system. The Raiders acquired Stidham and a seventh-round pick in exchange for a sixth-round pick.

Kenny Young is entering his fifth year in the NFL after being drafted by the Ravens in the fourth round of the 2018 NFL Draft out of UCLA. Young has been traded twice in his career, first from the Ravens to the Rams in his second season, and again from the Rams to the Broncos last year. He’s appeared in 59 games in his career with 25 starts. Being a late addition to the roster via free agency, it is unclear whether Young will have a significant role with the team, but will certainly be given a chance to make an impact.

Stidham is entering his fourth year in the NFL after being drafted by the Patriots in the fourth round of the 2019 NFL Draft out of Auburn. Stidham has spent time in Patriots quarterback rooms with former NFL MVPs Tom Brady, Cam Newton, and 2021 first-round pick Mac Jones. He appeared in three games in 2019, four in 2020, and did not appear in 2021. His career stat line sits at 22 completions on 44 attempts for 256 yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions.

With the Raiders’ additions of Young and Stidham, the team is getting closer to getting their roster set for the continuation of their offseason program. The Raiders will open rookie minicamp tomorrow, May 13. The Raiders draft class will get to work with their 2022 draft class and undrafted free agent signings.
