Sterling has been booed by Liverpool fans whenever he has crossed paths with the Reds since but recently admitted he retained a lot of affection for the club.

During a live Instagram Q&A with his followers, the England international was asked if he would consider rejoining the club.

He answered:  ‘To be honest with you I love Liverpool. Don’t get it twisted, they are always in my heart.

L’Equipe have now reported that the Jurgen Klopp could make a move for the 25-year-old this summer once he is certain of his transfer budget.

According to the report, one of Sterling’s representatives responded to the rumours by leaving the door open for him to make a shock return.

He said: ‘Even if Raheem is attached to Manchester City, he hasn’t forgotten Liverpool, because that’s where he became who he is as a man and as a player.

‘Of course, there was controversy surrounding his exit, but since then, time has run its course and everything is possible’.

Sterling himself could be swayed, with Liverpool overtaking City as the best side in the Premier League after racking up a 25-point lead before the season was postponed because of the coronavirus crisis.

City’s two-year Champions League ban for an alleged breach of Financial Fair Play rules, which the club have appealed, could also prompt a host of star players to leave the club in search of European football elsewhere.

Indeed, Sterling’s relationship with Liverpool fans appears to have thawed after he was spotted taking selfies with Reds supporters after City’s Community Shield victory over his former club in August.
