PSV Eindhoven are poised to make a bid for Everton centre back Jarrad Branthwaite before the January transfer window slams shut.

The 20-year old, who cost Everton just £1million from Carlisle, has impressed staff at the Dutch club while on loan and sporting director Marcel Brands wants to make the move permanent.

The 6ft 5ins left sided defender has also attracted attention from Roma and Manchester City scouts during his time with PSV playing in the Dutch league and in Europe.

Everton’s state of flux may mean the offer is rebuffed for now while the new manager, who is expected to be Sean Dyche, assesses his squad.

However Everton need funds to bring in new players and to bolster their diminishing chances of staying up.

Branthwaite remains in contract until the summer of 2025, but it could make sense to sell while the youngster is highly-valued, just incase they suffer relegation to the Championship.

The defender has made 17 appearances in all competitions for PSV and has found the net once during that time.

A far cry from last season, when the English centre-back made just four Premier League starts last season as recently sacked manager Frank Lampard opted for experience in pursuit of top flight survival.

Middlesbrough, Sheffield United, Huddersfield Town, Blackpool, Cardiff and Sunderland were all reported to be keen on taking the youngster on loan – before PSV competed the deal in July

The defender spent the second half of the 2020-21 season on loan in the Championship with Blackburn Rovers.
