Prince William is not a ‘workaholic’ like King Charles — here’s why: royal expert
Like father, like son — or maybe not so much.
Prince William, 41, is less of a “workaholic” than his father, King Charles, 74, according to one royal expert — and there’s a good reason for it.
BBC’s former royal correspondent, Jennie Bond, recently told OK! Magazine that Prince William is focusing on his family as he knows it means a lot to his three children “to be around at weekends and holidays and whenever he can.”
Per The Daily Mail, William participated in 130 royal engagements last year, while King Charles had 497.
“With the late Queen’s ailing health, William probably had to step up to his full time royal job quicker than he might have hoped, but you can see now how committed he is,” Bond told the magazine, per Daily Mail.
She continued, noting, “However, I also very much admire the fact that he’s not a workaholic like his father, he knows how important family life is… He seems to be a full on, hands-on, caring dad.”
The Post reached out to representative at Buckingham Palace and Kensington Palace for comment.
But that’s not to say Prince William isn’t focusing on his work as well — in June, he launched an initiative in an effort to end homelessness, which he is calling Homewards.
Some of his priorities include preventing rather than managing homeless, and to “elevate” awareness around the issue.
He even has plans to get his children involved.
Prince William and his wife, Kate Middleton, 41, share three children together: Prince George, 9, Princess Charlotte, 8, and Prince Louis, 5.
In recent months, the 41-year-old has been joined by his children during some of his royal outings, including one father-son day earlier this month, where he took his eldest, Prince George, to a cricket match in London.
During the match, the two were photographed staring intently at the ongoing game, and even munching on a slice of pepperoni pizza, per Harper’s Bazaar.
One body language expert named Inbaal Honigman recently told the Daily Star that William “wants the world to see” how close he is to George.
“George appears older than his years. We don’t see any fidgeting, he’s sitting patiently, watching and chatting,” she explained.
And, even though Prince William may be a bit different than his father, who was officially crowned as the King of England in a grand coronation ceremony this past May, he has praised him for all of his efforts in the past.
“He has amazing personal discipline,” William said about his father in a 2017 BBC documentary about the monarch, “Prince, Son and Heir: Charles at 70,” according to Hello! Magazine.
“So, he has – and it’s frustrated me in the past a lot – he has a routine,” Prince William continued at the time. “The only way to fit all this stuff in is things have to be compartmentalized. The man never stops. I mean when we were kids there was bags and bags and bags of work that the office just sent to him. We could barely even get to his desk to say goodnight to him.”
Growing up, King Charles was not only a father to Prince William, but also to Prince Harry, 38.
However, William also said in the documentary that when his father is around, he is an especially “brilliant” grandfather to the kids, but also admitted that he wants him to have “more time” with them all.
“I think he’s… now he’s reached his 70th year it’s a perfect time to consolidate a little bit because as most families would do, you are worried about having them around and making sure their health’s okay,” Prince William said.
“And he’s the fittest man I know but equally I want him to be fit until he’s 95. So, having more time with him at home would be lovely, and being able to you know, play with the grandchildren. Because when he’s there, he’s brilliant. But we need him there as much as possible.”
