Newcastle United have gained the most from overturned VAR decisions in the Premier League this season – but Manchester City and Brighton will be far from enamoured with the technology.
A study of all 54 decisions referred to the Video Assistant Referee in the competition so far has revealed which clubs have had most verdicts go in their favour.
VAR reviews whether goals should be allowed to stand by checking replays for offside or fouls in the build-up, whether penalties should be awarded and whether red cards should be issued.

The ESPN league table found that Newcastle, who are chasing a top four finish under Eddie Howe, had seen six VAR overturns go in their favour and one against them so far.
These include Miguel Almiron’s goal against Manchester City back in August being allowed to stand having originally been disallowed for offside – while goals Wolves and Brentford thought they’d scored against the Toon were chalked off.
The one decision that has gone against Newcastle was when Tyrick Mitchell saw an own goal ruled out for a foul in the lead-up in a goalless draw with Crystal Palace in September.
Brentford are also ‘up’ by four VAR decisions in their favour, the study found, with the most recent examples coming in the 3-1 win over Liverpool on Monday.

While Ben Mee saw his goal ruled out for offside following a VAR consultation, the technology worked in their favour when Darwin Nunez saw his effort disallowed in the second-half.
At the other end of the leaderboard, Brighton are ‘down’ four VAR decisions so far this season – more than anybody else.
The one VAR overturn that went in their favour was a penalty award at Fulham back in August, but since then all five referrals have gone against them.
The latest was when Kaoru Mitoma saw a goal that would have made it 3-4 disallowed for offside against leaders Arsenal on New Year’s Eve.

The Gunners enjoy a five-point advantage at the top of the table but have seen more VAR overturn decisions go against them than for them.
While that Brighton disallowed goal was in their favour, they had a penalty given for handball against West Ham’s Aaron Cresswell cancelled on Boxing Day.
Closest challengers Manchester City have seen four calls go against them, including a goal Phil Foden thought he’d scored in their defeat at Liverpool in October. VAR replays highlighted a foul by Erling Haaland on Fabinho.
High-flying Manchester United have seen VAR decisions in their matches cancel each other out, with two going their way and two against.
Most important was the goal Gabriel Martinelli had disallowed for a foul by Martin Odegaard on Christian Eriksen at Old Trafford in September, with United going on to beat Arsenal 3-1.
But Marcus Rashford saw his second strike disallowed for handball at Wolves on New Year’s Eve, making for a nervy finale.
ESPN’s collated data showed that only three of the 54 decisions had been turned down following consultation between on-field officials and those at Stockley Park.
17 had led to goals being given but 21 had resulted in a goal being disallowed. 15 penalties have been awarded with seven spot-kicks cancelled.
13 goals have been ruled out for offside, while six have been given after it was deemed the raised flag for offside was incorrect. Two red cards have ben overturned.
