  • Kane’s future is clouded by uncertainty amid interest from the Germans

Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou almost erupted when ambushed at a press conference over the future of Harry Kane, as the club continue to offered a robust defence of their green credentials.

Postecoglou was unimpressed when a reporter from a German newspaper brandishing a Bayern Munich shirt emblazoned with Kane’s name on, tried to score a cheap shot or two at the conference ahead of Tottenham’s game against Leicester in Bangkok.

‘What does that look like?’ laughed the journalist as he showed the new Spurs boss the Bayern shirt. ‘It looks quite good, no?’

A furious Postecoglou raged: ‘I don’t know what you’re talking about. Did you get a good laugh? Very good. You came a long way for that.’

The Australian recently admitted he ‘wasn’t relaxed’ about Kane speculation with Bayern already having had two bids knocked back.

While Postecoglou was fending off Kane questions, the club was defending itself over the air miles they are clocking up during their preseason tour of Australia and South-East Asia.

Spurs, with their long-standing commitment to return to Australia, will travel further this summer than any other Premier League club.

Although, in Bangkok, four players took part in a sustainability workshop at the team hotel. Heung-min Son, Ivan Perisic, Joe Rodon and Pape Matar Sarr joined local children as they recycled last season’s Tottenham shirts into drawstring boot bags.

They also took part in the Premier League’s first carbon neutral game, against Chelsea in December 2021.

‘Tottenham Hotspur is committed to minimising its environmental impact across all club operations, which will take time and effort,’ said a club statement.

As part of this commitment, and as a signatory of the UN Sports for Climate Action Framework, the Club has a policy in place to ensure all its playing teams – comprising of the Men’s First Team, Women’s First Team and Academy age groups – travel to and from matches as sustainably as possible.

This includes minimising air travel where possible, with team officials and delegates travelling on the team plane where space permits – as has been the case during the current Tour.

‘During the season, the team will travel by coach for all distances under 2.5 hours, whereby player physical optimisation and performance is not compromised as a result.

‘The Club works with its Official Travel Partner, Destination Sport Travel, to measure, manage and report on travel emissions, with the objective to reduce emissions where possible and identify sustainable team travel options. Destination Sport Travel is also working with the Club to offset emissions where possible via the purchase of carbon credits verified by the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change,’ the statement said.

Spurs have chartered their own plane to carry the squad and all staff members together on this tour, flying direct to Australia via a short refuelling stop in the Maldives, then onto Bangkok where they play Leicester, before the final leg in Singapore.

They complete their preseason schedule with a home game against Shakhtar Donetsk and a trip to Spain to take on Barcelona.
