Possible candidates for Rams’ now-vacant offensive coordinator position

The Los Angeles Rams are going to have to start from scratch again for their offensive coordinator.

After not even a full season, Liam Coen has left Los Angeles to return to Kentucky to be their offensive coordinator once more.

Working under Rams head coach Sean McVay as an offensive coordinator has gotten several guys head coaching jobs.

Former L.A. offensive coaches Kevin O’Connell (Vikings), Zac Taylor (Bengals), Matt LaFleur (Packers) and Jedd Fisch (Arizona) have all become head coaches in the past few years.

While Coen struggled through his lone year with the Rams, it’ll be a coveted job in the NFL.

Here are a few candidates who make a lot of sense for McVay’s staff.

Zac Robinson (Rams passing game coordinator/quarterbacks)

The most likely candidate for the job may come from within. Robinson has been on McVay’s offensive staff since 2019 in various roles. While he’s just 30, he’s a former NFL quarterback who might be the next McVay protégée to be set up for future NFL success.

If Robinson already has a sizable role in helping scheme the passing game and in coaching the quarterbacks, he’s the logical choice. Age is just a number in McVay’s coaching room.

Charles London (Falcons quarterbacks coach)

While he’s not a McVay guy, the Rams actually interviewed London for the job in the winter before hiring Coen. Perhaps they’d try to hire him this go-around since Coen didn’t work out.

The Rams have already hired one former Falcons coordinator in the past few seasons in defensive coordinator Raheem Morris. London seems like a rising figure in the league, having coached on various offensive roles since 2006.

Frank Reich (former Colts head coach)

If Reich wants to be a head coach again, snagging the Rams offensive coordinator role might not be a bad way to reinvent himself.

Reich was Doug Pederson’s offensive coordinator during the Philadelphia Eagles’ 2017 Super Bowl season. If McVay wants a seasoned figure to work under him to help get the LA offense back on track, Reich makes a lot of sense.

Joe Brady (Bills quarterbacks coach)

Brady went from being a hot head coaching candidate in the winter of 2021 to being fired from the Carolina Panthers during the 2021 season. A bright offensive mind, he snagged a quarterbacks coaching job this offseason with the Buffalo Bills, maybe the best NFL coaching staff.

If Bills OC Ken Dorsey gets a head coaching job, Brady probably gets promoted. If Dorsey stays, it wouldn’t be shocking to see Brady take his talents to Los Angeles to coach under McVay for a year or two.
