Political Twitch streamer Hasan Piker donates $2k to South Texas abortion nonprofits

Hasan Piker tweeted the night of Monday, May 2 that he has donated $2,581 to Frontera Fund, a nonprofit that funds women’s efforts in the Rio Grande Valley and South Texas to gain access to reproductive health services including abortions. He made the donation hours after a draft opinion from Justice Samuel Alito saying the Supreme Court plans to overturn Roe v. Wade.

Piker, who goes by HasanAbi on Twitch, said when he went live Tuesday, May 3 that he plans to do a fundraising stream soon that will benefit both Frontera Fund and the Texas Equal Access Fund with more organizations possibly added to the list.

Piker’s community has been known to raise funds for multiple cause, including a recent fundraiser for Ukraine aid where he raised $226,277.64. He matched the first $25,000 and donated additional $10 every time his character died in the notoriously difficult video game, Elden Ring

Alexis Bay, board director with Frontera Fund, said that donating to all local abortion funds and reproductive rights nonprofits in Texas is key if Roe is struck down.

“We want folks to volunteer and donate to the fund, but also to support one of our local partners,” Bay says. “We also want to uplift that work because that is another form of things that people can help when dealing with all of these attacks on reproductive justice.”
