As the college golf season creeps closer to the NCAA Championships, it’s becoming a two-horse race for a PGA Tour card.
Stanford’s Michael Thorbjornsen retook the top spot in the PGA Tour University rankings for the Class of 2024. He lost the spot two weeks ago to Georgia Tech’s Christo Lamprecht, but Thorbjornsen won the Cabo Collegiate in his last start and gained enough points to reclaim the No. 1 position.
Thorbjornsen has a points average of 1356.8252 in 23 events while Lamprecht sits at 1326.9016 points after 18 events. North Florida’s Nick Gabrelcik, in the No. 3 spot, is more than 200 points behind Lamprecht with only a handful of events left to go that count toward standings.
That means it’s more likely than not to be Thorbjornsen or Lamprecht earning a PGA Tour card at the men’s NCAA Championship.
Upon the conclusion of the collegiate golf season, the No. 1 player in the final PGA Tour U rankings earns PGA Tour membership. Ludvig Aberg was the first player to earn a card last year.
Players Nos. 2-5 (fully exempt) and Nos. 6-10 (conditional) earn Korn Ferry Tour membership, and players finishing 11th through 25th earn exempt membership on PGA Tour Americas.
Vanderbilt’s William Moll and North Carolina’s Austin Greaser round out the top five in the latest ranking.
Thorbjornsen and Lamprecht will go head-to-head at The Goodwin at TPC Harding Park on March 30-April 1.
