Pep Guardiola revealed that Vincent Kompany’s destiny is to become Manchester City manager.
Kompany has performed wonders at his first job in English football with Burnley, who are cantering to promotion from the Championship.
The Clarets – who face City in an FA Cup quarter-final later this month – are 19 points clear of third-placed Middlesbrough as they aim for an immediate return to the Premier League.
Kompany, who won four league titles during an 11-year spell at the Etihad Stadium, is expected to go back to City at some point and his managerial style has admirers within the hierarchy.
‘Vinny’s destiny to be manager of City is written in the stars,’ Guardiola said. ‘It’s going to happen, I don’t know when but it will happen.

‘I’m impressed with their consistency, the amount of games, so difficult – it’s unbelievable. They are close to being promoted again, I’m delighted with his success.
‘All of us are happy to see him back. It’s a big chance to reach Wembley and we’ll try to compete against Vinny and his team.’
Guardiola’s contract expires in 2025 and, asked if Kompany could be his immediate successor, he said: ‘I said that sooner or later he will be manager here. When, I don’t know.
‘It’s my feeling, maybe I’m wrong. His work ethic, knowledge, what he’s done, he’s doing really well, knows the club, the environment, what our people need. The destiny is there.’
Meanwhile, Guardiola revealed that John Stones and Aymeric Laporte have been training after injury and illness ahead of Saturday’s game against Newcastle.
