Pedro’s ‘move to Roma now in jeopardy… with the Chelsea forward offered to Valencia’

Chelsea forward Pedro was set to join Serie A club Roma this summer on a free transfer but that deal is now in some doubt, according to reports.

The 33-year-old ex-Barcelona winger is out of contract this summer, and with the expected arrival of attacking duo Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner, he looks unlikely to extend his stay in west London

The Spain international was heavily linked with a move to Roma but according to Spanish outlet Diario Sport, a huge fallout at boardroom level at the Stadio Olimpico means Pedro has also been offered a return to his homeland with Valencia.

The report details that there has been a fallout at Roma between sporting director Gianluca Petrachi and majority shareholder James Pallotta, with the former pushing for a deal and the latter resistant to any signings at the present time, as reported by Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport.

As a result, Pedro has reportedly been offered a move to Valencia, who drew their first LaLiga game back last week, 1-1 against Levante on Friday night.

The budget available to Valencia manager Albert Celades will be determined by the club’s final league position at the end of this season.

Qualifying for European competition would provide a financial boost to the LaLiga club, who are currently seventh in the table – four points off Champions League football.

Pedro has been at Chelsea for nearly five years, having joined the Blues in 2015 – then-managed by Jose Mourinho – from Barcelona.

He has won one Premier League title under Antonio Conte in 2017, one FA Cup and last year’s Europa League.

This season, Pedro has made 18 appearances under Frank Lampard, scoring twice and recording three assists as the Blues push for a top-four spot in the Premier League upon the league’s restart on Wednesday – they open up at Aston Villa on Sunday.
