Panthers acquire Jaguars WR Laviska Shenault via trade

The Carolina Panthers are set to acquire Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Laviska Shenault, according to a report from NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

Shenault was drafted 42nd overall by the Jaguars in 2020. Anticipated as a versatile offensive weapon, Shenault appeared in 14 games his rookie season, finishing the year with 600 receiving yards and five touchdowns on 79 targets. While he finished 55th in receiving DYAR in 2020, Shenault posted a 45 rushing DYAR on 18 carries, eighth-best among wide receivers that year.

Shenault’s productivity took a hit in 2021 under new Jaguars head coach Urban Meyer. Despite seeing 21 more targets year-over-year, Shenault finished 2021 with 619 receiving yards — just 19 more than in 2020. His DYAR fell from 56 to -112 in a single season. Shenault also failed to find the end zone all season.

Shenault will now have a new start in Carolina, playing alongside DJ Moore and Robbie Anderson at receiver. Last year, Carolina receivers combined for 12 total rushing attempts, eight of which were taken by Moore. Moore’s 37 rushing DYAR was tenth among qualifying receivers.
