Packers’ Allen Lazard names Aaron Rodgers greatest QB of all time over Tom Brady

Add current Green Bay Packers wide receiver Allen Lazard to the list of people who have recently anointed somebody other than Tom Brady as the greatest quarterback of all time.

Lazard spoke with TMZ Sports ahead of Super Bowl LVII and named long-time teammate Aaron Rodgers as “the greatest of all time.” The 27-year-old then left no doubt about his feelings on the subject.

“Not might, no might. Drop the might. He’s the G.O.A.T.,” Lazard said about Rodgers.

The G.O.A.T. topic became a major talking point among many in the NFL community after Brady announced his “for good” retirement on Feb. 1. Sports radio legend Mike Francesa generated headlines when he said on ESPN that he didn’t view Brady as the best regular-season or Super Bowl quarterback in history, and New York Giants icon Lawrence Taylor made it known he’d take fellow Hall of Famer Joe Montana over Brady.

Meanwhile, Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders admitted he had Montana atop his power rankings “once upon a time” but now thinks that “Brady with the Super Bowl wins eclipsed that.”

Bob Wolfley once mentioned for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that some analysts viewed Rodgers as the most physically gifted quarterback in the league during his prime. Rodgers is a four-time NFL Most Valuable Player, but he has only one Super Bowl ring on his résumé. Brady, meanwhile, is a seven-time champion and the only player to earn Super Bowl MVP honors on five occasions.

Such numbers apparently mean little to Lazard.

“The best person to ever pick up a football and throw the ball,” Lazard told TMZ about Rodgers. “I’ll leave it at that.”

Lazard and Rodgers could soon go in different directions. The receiver is set to hit free agency when the new league year opens in March, and the Packers reportedly may be on the cusp of trading the signal-caller to either the New York Jets or Las Vegas Raiders.

For what it’s worth, Brady was never traded during his once-in-a-generation career.
