Open Thread: The Champagnie on Champagnie crime in Spurs vs. Wizards

The twins faced off for the first time in their careers.
Julian Champagnie joined the San Antonio Spurs two years ago this week. The St. John’s swingman went undrafted in 2022, finally signing a two-way contract with the Philadelphia 76ers. He spent time with the Delaware Blue Coats before being waived on Valentine’s Day 2023. Two days later, he inked a two-way contract with the Silver & Black. He’s been building his resume as a sharpshooter ever since.
Julian’s twin brother Justin, who is older by seven minutes, also plays in the NBA. After going undrafted in 2021, the Pittsburgh Panther signed a two-way contract with the Toronto Raptors. In the summer of 2022, he resigned for a second season, but was waived in December.
He started off 2023 with the Sioux City Skyforce, the Miami Heat G-league affiliate. He had a small stint the Boston Celtics at the end of the season, but returned to the Skyforce the next season.
This year, Justin Champagnie signed on with the Washington Wizards on a two-way contract. Injuries to the Wizards have given Justin some big league playing time, and last night for the first time, the brothers met on the NBA hardwood.
The Spurs won, so Julian gets the nod, but Justin scored 14 to Julian’s 6, so Just gets the personal brag at the next family gathering.
In particular, Just scored a three with his younger brother guarding him.
It’s all fun and games as the brothers met for an embrace at center court when the game ended.
Watch the pregame feature on the Champagnie brothers.
The Spurs have one more game tomorrow night before the All-Star Break.
