Open Thread: Spurs team up with Shoes That Fit to spread some holiday cheer

The Spurs Season of Giving is in full swing

This is my favorite time of year. Not because if the holidays and the decorations, though that is nice. This is the time of year when the Spurs Organization doubles and triples down to serve the San Antonio community on multiple fronts.

Over the years, I have covered these events, and there is nothing like the look on a youngsters face when he or she comes face to face with a Spurs player. And when they realize they are the recipient of some much needed supplies, their joy overflows.

The Spurs Organization does so much to ensure families are offered support during the holidays, which can be stressful for many.

Last month, the Spurs Season of Giving launched with Spurs Give teaming up with Shoes That Fit to give out free athletic shoes to hundreds of EISD students.

At the event, Tre Jones personally handed out shoes and sports gear to individual students.

The event also featured appearances from Coyote and Hype Squad to interact with the students.

Even R. C. Buford got in on the action, distributing backpacks.

Amy Fass, Executive Director of Shoes That Fit, shared,

“One in three children in the United States live in a low-income family, and shoes are one of the most expensive items for families to provide. When families have to choose between putting food on the table or buying new shoes for school, you can imagine that food wins every time. The simple gift of a pair of shoes can increase a child’s confidence, attendance and performance at school, and we are so thankful that the Spurs are taking the time to make such a positive impact on these kids.”

There is so much more to come during the holidays. I look forward to reporting on the events, and witnessing the unadulterated joy that comes along with each.

Happy holidays, Pounders, I hope you have all you need and some of what you want.
