Open Thread: Spurs stay in 4th place as the 5-8 spots all trade places
So much movement as the playoff race continues to tighten.
Man, oh man, these teams are fighting for their lives. It looked like the Suns were going to upset the Rockets, then the Rockets tied it up with 12 seconds left. The Suns scored again. Then with one second left the Rockets hit a 3-point buzzer beater to upset the upset. Not a game that affects the standings at all, just nice to think of the Rockets dropping one to a struggling team. Let’s hope the Rockets stay out of focus on Easter.
In the meantime, the Nuggets and Thunder were tied at 110 apiece with a minute left. Traded baskets and tied again at 114 with 9 seconds on the clock. Overtime commenced. And the Nuggets wore down Westbrook’s crew on the Thunder’s SEGABABA. This Thunder loss maintains the Spurs 4th place seeding.
Even the Pelicans in Cleveland was pretty close. But not close enough. Pelicans lose 102-107. Spurs still in 4th place.
Timberwolves pulled a 1 point victory in Dallas, But that single point caused a tie between the Timberwolves and Thunder, propelling them from 7th to 5th consequently dropping Oklahoma City to 6th and and New Orleans to 7th.
But wait, there’s more!
The Utah Jazz beat the Memphis Grizzlies in Salt Lake City causing the Jazz to move up one more notch, dropping the Pelicans to 8th.
So, it was entirely possible, and it happened— the Spurs lose two straight on the road, win one and move up to 4th. Meanwhile, the Pelicans lose one game and drop two spots. There is a one game difference between the 4th and 8th seeds.
Yes. The Spurs are a half-game above both Minnesota and OKC. They are a full game above Utah and the Pelicans.
By the way, it should be noted that the Spurs beat each of these four teams in their last match-up.
*These standings do not reflect the Trailblazers/Clippers game. I lost interest after Portland went up by 20+ in the second half and went to bed.
So let’s keep this momentum! Beat the Rockets! GO SPURS GO!
Today’s games are all Eastern Conference match-ups save the Warriors/Kings game that will have no effect on the standings. So check back tomorrow for a Spurs-centric thread previous to the Easter holiday games.
If you’re really interested in “San Antonio” basketball tomorrow, catch the Final Four taking place at the Alamodome live on TBS at 5:09 (Loyola IL vs. Michigan) and 7:49 (Kansas vs. Villanova).
