Open Thread: Rudy Gobert is Shaq’s choice for “Worst Player of All Time”
The TNT host spouts off in a podcast slamming the DPOY
On the GOAT Talk podcast, basketball legend Shaquille O’Neal was asked by his son, Myles, who the worst player in NBA history was. Without hesitation, Shaq replied, “Rudy Gobert.”

“If you sign a contract for [$250 million], show me you’re 250. There’s a reason why I walk funny and why I can’t turn my neck and why I can’t do it because I played for my [$120 million]. So you got guys like him that f— the system over and they’re making all this money and they can’t f—ing play. So I don’t respect guys like that.”
Rudy Gobert took to social media to respond.
It is sad to see someone that has accomplished as much as you did @SHAQ both in sport and business still be triggered by another man’s finances and accomplishments. I get the entertainment part but unlike other folks, you don’t need that stuff to stay relevant. https://t.co/KPHs2VmfIb

Shaq doesn’t have a leg to stand on in saying Gobert “can’t play.”
Back in 2002, Shaq postponed surgery for three months (or the length of the offseason), calling it “indecision.” He ended up missing the first few weeks of the regular season.
In reality, it was a decision so that O’Neal could save himself for the playoffs.
Maybe he just doesn’t remember that. I’m sure Doug Christie does. After the Kings and Lakers feuded on and off the court, Shaq came out in a press conference after the surgery and said his foot felt fine because “I had Doug Christie’s wife massage it for me before coming over here.”
I’ll admit, upon hearing that Inside the NBA was ending, I thought Charles Barkley was the mouth I would not miss. I was mistaken.
