Open Thread: Recapping the NBA trade deadline

Many moves were made, but did any one team make a significant difference?

The Spurs did not make a trade. Neither did the Celtics, Mavericks, Raptors, Pacers, Jazz, Thunder, nor Pelicans.

But many teams did. Some made big moves while other adjusted. Here are some highlights:

Andre Iguodala came out like a groundhog, and after not seeing his own shadow, emerged in a Miami Heat jersey. He joins the fellow ultimatum baller Jimmy Butler along with the acquisition of Jae Crowder and Solomon Hill. The Memphis Grizzlies acquired Justise Winslow, Dion Waiters, and Gorgui Dieng. And the Minnesota Timberwolves picked up James Johnson.

Meanwhile, the Timberwolves were also able to unload Andrew Wiggins’ massive contract along with two draft picks to the Golden State Warriors in exchange for D’Angelo Russell, Jacob Evans III, and Omari Spellman. The Warriors made room for Wiggins by additionally handing Alec Burks and Glenn Robinson III to the Philadelphia 76ers for two of the Warriors second-round draft picks.

The Timberwolves kept on reshuffling with a four team deal involving Houston, Atlanta, and Denver. The Rockets got Robert Covington and Jordan Bell (who was then traded to the Memphis Grizzlies.) The Hawks got Clint Capela and Nene (who was then waived). The Timberwolves got Evan Turner, Malik Beasley, Juancho Hernangomez, Jarred Vanderbilt, and Atlanta’s first-round pick (that came from a previous trade with the Brooklyn Nets). And finally, the Nuggets got Shabazz Napier (who was then traded to the Washington Wizards), Noah Vonleh, Keita Bates-Diop, Gerald Green, and Houston’s first-round pick.

Marcus Morris (yes, the same Marcus Morris the Spurs originally set their sights on) joins Kawhi Leonard and Paul George in exchange for Maurice Harkless. The Clippers also traded Jerome Robinson for the Wizard’s Isaiah Thomas, but waived him.

Andre Drummond is headed to Cleveland while the Pistons get Brandon Knight, John Henson, and a second-round pick.

The Portland Trail Blazers sent Skal Labissiere to Atlanta for cash. The Orlando Magic acquired James Ennis III from Philadelphia for a second-round pick. And the Wizards and Nuggets made an even swap sending Shabazz Napier to D. C. and bringing Jordan McRae to Denver.
