Former Spurs assistant knows the game well

It is no secret that Sean Elliott is not a fan of cold weather. His breaks tend to align with the Spurs extended trips into cooler climate.

Over the last two games, former Spurs assistant coach P. J. Carlesimo sat in for the “Memorial Day Miracle” legend. In Washington, D. C., and again in Boston, the long-time coach sat with Jacob Tobey calling the game.

Carlesimo, after going undrafted in 1971, moved right into coaching as an assistant at Fordham, his alma mater. Thus began a career spanning thirty-seven seasons serving as a coach at the college and NBA level.

From 2002-2007, P. J. sat next to Gregg Popovich. As an assistant, Carlesimo won three championships with the San Antonio Spurs.

Since retiring from basketball in 2013, the former NABC Coach of the Year involved himself with broadcasting. His distinctive voice and insight make him an asset and a welcome substitute to a Spurs game.

The Spurs are off until next Thursday when they host the Phoenix Suns from Austin.
