Open Thread: New Year’s resolutions for the San Antonio Spurs

With the Silver & Black turning up the heat this month, a discussion about 2019 has begun.

I hope you’ve all had an enjoyable New Year’s celebration. I know ending Monday with a Spurs “W” helped end the year on a positive note.

But the fireworks are over and it is time for the Spurs to get back to it. Their immediate schedule involves the Raptors, Grizzlies, Pistons, and Thunder. The Raptors currently have the second best record in the NBA. The Thunder are 3rd in the Western Conference and the Spurs are involved in a home-to-home with OKC. The Spurs almost have a home-to-home with the Grizzlies, save the extra mileage to Detroit between.

So there is little room for error in a competitive conference where a bad streak can kill playoff hopes. There is room to improve and that applies to each player.

Your mission — if you choose to accept, dear Pounders — is to help construct a positive New Year’s resolution for each player.

For example, I’ve been most impressed with Derrick White these last few games. I’d like to see him keep up his defense while continue to expand on the offense. The difference for January compared to December is that opposing teams will be able to see footage of what he’s doing and plan for his cuts to the hoop and dishes in the low post.

RESOLUTION: White needs to have a Plan B when defenses are wise to the style of play that has been working for him.
