Open Thread: My faith in the Spurs is renewed whenever Lonnie Walker IV hits the hardwood

If the Spurs bench is what keeps them contending for a playoff berth, then Walker is the next big piece of that puzzle.

I’m gonna just let the highlights speak for themselves.

The Spurs need this guy as much as he needs the Spurs. It’s a mutual symbiotic relationship. As discussed by the In The Bonus panel and highlighted by Marilyn Dubinski’s post during the Pistons game on Saturday night, Lonnie Walker IV is earning his minutes at the expense of Marco Belinelli, whose talent and time left in the NBA is most likely on the decline.

Lonnie’s personality and community service minded personae already lend itself to San Antonio as a city, but his ability to ignite the offense as soon as he steps on the court is vastly becoming undeniable.

Three of Walker’s four made shots were slam dunks. Keeping in mind that he can defend (just ask James Harden) and hit threes, the minutes leading to experience are the only hurdle left for the young, athletic guard as he develops composure in the clutch.

Hopefully Lonnie will be hitting the court during the first quarter more often and continue to make the Spurs bench one of the most successful in the league.
