The beautiful game is celebrated throughout

I thought it was a brilliant move having Patty Mills serve as emcee for the parade celebration at the Alamodome. He was about to be a free agent and the sentimentality of his presence had a lasting effect on the players and fans alike.

Of course, we didn’t know then that Mills had been playing injured and would undergo surgery over the summer that would limit his 2014-15 season. His signing with the Spurs protected him as much as maintained his amazing personality with the team that fits him so well to this day.

The rest of that 2014 Championship team has moved on…somewhat.

Tim Duncan is now an assistant coach and I don’t think it will be long before Manu Ginobili is hanging around the workout room with regularity.

Matt Bonner and family settled nicely into San Antonio and he looks right at home with Ric Renner and Dan Weiss on Fox Sports as an analyst.

As for the rest, they have moved on. But that was the best year.

That Miami Heat team imploded. James walked away from his team and returned to Cleveland, a move that never would have happened had he and The Heatles three-peated in 2014.

LeBron James made an unprecedented modern day, eight straight Finals appearances. Very rare these days without movement of major players. But the Spurs were a Big Three that spent a combined fifty-two seasons on one team. Vastly different that what we see in the NBA nowadays.

Something special that may never be replicated again.

What are your favorite memories of 2014?
