Open Thread: LeBron heads to 8th consecutive NBA Finals appearance
Cavs pull of upset at TD Garden
After 6 Eastern Conference Finals games where the home team had won. After pundits had repeatedly prophesied that LeBron James could not alone carry his team through alone. After the 1st quarter ended with LeBron scoring the lion’s share of the points for the Cavs. After James had more turnovers than assists. And after no 4th quarter had started as close as the 4th quarter of Game 7. LeBron James — the greatest player on the planet — took over as he has always done in moments such as these. But on this night he didn’t do it alone. Jeff Green scored 19, J.R. Smith scored 12 and Tristan Thompson scored 10. Kevin Love was sitting out with concussion protocol, but there would be no asterisk necessary as to why the Cavaliers failed to get it done.
And now LeBron and his merry band of Cavaliers are left to represent the Eastern Conference in the NBA Finals. Will it be round 4 of the Warriors/Cavaliers? Or will the Rockets surprise everyone and upset Golden State without the help of Chris Paul?
Hats off to the Boston Celtics. Could any team in the NBA lose Gordon Hayward 5 minutes and 15 seconds into the season AND lose Kyrie Irving before the playoffs and still be 5 minutes from heading to the NBA Finals?
Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown are two of the most exciting young players to watch. Al Horford has so much of Tim Duncan’s style, he’s amazing. And it’s great to see Aron Baynes playing so well. Marcus Morris, Terry Rozier, and Marcus Smart round out a well-balanced team with the best young coach in the NBA. The Celtics will be back. Their time is coming. Their stars are on the rise.
And LeBron James will not last forever. But he will indeed last for one more year.
NBA Finals begin Thursday.
