The Point God will retain his favored number

Keldon Johnson reportedly will give up wearing the #3 jersey for the San Antonio Spurs in order to allow Chris Paul to take his signature number.

This will be the seventh NBA team Chris Paul has played for over his nineteen years, and now the seventh time he’s worn #3.

Recently, Johnson seemed confident he would be keeping it. As was shared on X (formerly Twitter), “Yeah, I’ll be No. 3 next year, for sure.”

The irony is that Johnson has worn number 3 his whole life, due in part, for his admiration for Chris Paul.

Apparently head coach Gregg Popovich found himself in the middle of the dispute between the longest tenured Spur and his childhood hero. Pop took the future Hall of Farmers side, reportedly telling Johnson to do the “right thing.”

At the two-and-a-half point of this video, there are photos at Dick’s Sporting Goods showing official Spurs merchandise with Paul’s name on the #3.

Johnson will wear #0, the same number he wore with the Spurs’ G-League affiliate during the 2019-20 season.
