Open Thread: Happy birthday to Tim Duncan

Today we celebrate the birthday of Timothy Theodore Duncan.

Known for his tranquil demeanor (and paired with a world still isolating during a pandemic), it is likely Tim is having a quiet night at Casa Duncan celebrating with his family. Maybe the Ginobilis. Possibly the Parkers.

But let’s all admit the real celebration of Tim Duncan will take place on May 15th as the basketball world honors San Antonio’s greatest Spur with an induction into the NBA Hall of Fame.

Duncan, along with Kobe Bryant and Kevin Garnett, lead a special class whose induction has been postponed due to the coronavirus outbreak.

The San Antonio Spurs would not be exactly who they are without The Big Fundamental. His partnership with Gregg Popovich as well as his on-court pairing with David Robinson led the Spurs to their first title in 1999 and set the tone for five championships in fifteen years.

It is fitting that Robinson will be presenting Old Man Riverwalk at the celebrated inauguration in three weeks.

And so, for today, we can say “Happy birthday, Timmy.”
