The self-proclaimed curmudgeon continues to age like a fine wine.

Today, The Memorial Day Miracle, Mr. Sean Elliott, turns fifty-two.

Last night he called the final home game against the Charlotte Hornets before he, Bill, and the San Antonio Spurs headed out west on the annual Rodeo Road Trip.

Tomorrow and Tuesday the Spurs are in Los Angeles for back-to-back games against the Clippers and Lakers, two of the strongest title contenders in the Western Conference. It’s can’t be too exciting to travel on your birthday, so hopefully Pop is treating this member of his 1999 Championship squad to a meal at a fine Hollywood establishment this evening.

After all, it was Sean Elliott’s Memorial Day Miracle that has been credited with bolstering the Spurs’ morale during that historic run and propelling them into their first NBA Finals appearance. If nothing else, Elliott himself will mention it often throughout the broadcast season. You can see it in slow-motion here:

So raise a glass and wish a happy birthday to Sean Elliott, a legend whose number hangs proudly in the rafters of the AT&T Center, a member of the Spurs first 1999 NBA Championship, and — along with Bill Land — one of the most beloved commentating teams in the NBA.

Happy birthday, #32!
