Open Thread: Going forward Spurs games will air on Bally Sports Southwest

I don’t know if you are like me, but the minute I saw that Fox Sports Southwest was rebranding as Bally Sports Southwest, I immediately feared I would not be able to watch the Spurs play.

Starting tomorrow, all regional networks -nineteen in all- previously owned by Fox Sports will be labeled with the Bally Sports name, just in time for opening day of the Texas Rangers season on April 1.

Originally purchased in 2019 by the Sinclair Broadcast Group, the regional networks and agreed to a partnership with the casino corporation.

“We are extremely proud to unveil the Bally Sports logo as it signifies a new, transformative chapter in the regional sports business and is representative of our cohesive partnership with Bally’s,” Steve Rosenberg, President of Local Sports, Sinclair Broadcast Group said in a statement.

But Spurs fans will not lose their ability to watch the games. The regional network will have new graphics and music, but otherwise we’ll still have Bill and Sean, Ric and Matt, and the same great coverage to which we have become accustomed. Even the channels will remain the same.

The Bally Sports app will launch on March 31. If you have the Fox Sports Go app, it will automatically update to the all-new Bally Sports App. Additionally, games will stream live on the app and on ballysports.com.

So tomorrow when you go to watch the Spurs play the Sacramento Kings for the second time, it will be on a different network…but not a different channel.

Man, branding sure can get confusing?
