Open Thread: Fred’s Fish Fry suing over spoofed Spurs City Edition jersey

A viral moment emblazoned on merchandise has the fishmongers in uproar

Fred’s Fish Fry, a longtime favorite San Antonio franchise, is suing over 20 entities for trademark infringement due to their logo being put on a bootleg rendition of the San Antonio Spurs City Edition jersey. In addition, the mocked up logo has been seen on t-shirts, sweatshirts, jersey shorts, sweat pants, and other merchandise.

San Antonio artist Adrian Galvan designed the jersey but claims that the design was taken and sold by others. According to the San Antonio Express-News, he had been approached to share his design, but turned them down because he did not have permission to use the trademarked logo.

Galvan claims he “just created a meme for people to get laughs.”

That he has gotten as Twitter (or X for you newbies) had multiple mentions and posts.

Friends, I will be away for a week and the Thread will have some guest writers. Make them feel welcome and stay classy.

Happy holidays!
