Open Thread: Experience the Sensory Room at the AT&T Center
Enhancements make Spurs games more accessible to all.
The San Antonio Spurs are opening a new Sensory Room inside the AT&T Center. The room is located outside of Section 230 for guests at any event in the AT&T Center with sensory needs or sensory-processing issues such as Autism, PTSD, dementia, or anxiety.
The room, designed by KultureCity, a non-profit known nationally for using their resources in the community for those with sensory needs, will be open tonight as the Spurs host the Atlanta Hawks, in recognition of World Autism Awareness Day.
Per a Spurs press release:
The AT&T Center Sensory Room provides a quiet, calming space for any fan in need of a peaceful refuge inside the arena. The private room is furnished with plush seating, calming artwork, and sensory-friendly activities. The AT&T Center is now certified as sensory inclusive by KultureCity, and a majority of full-and-part-time staff members have participated in sensory training through the organization.
Other sensory considerations are available at the AT&T Center. Patrons can visit Guest Services to obtain noise-cancelling headphones, a non-verbal feelings thermometer, fidget toys, and a KultureCity VIP lanyard so that arena staff may identify people who request these items.
Just one more way that Spurs Sports & Entertainment is reaching out in the community to make game day experiences more accessible for all.
