Open Thread: CBS predicts the Spurs to draft Donte DeVincenzo

The Villanova shooting guard wowed the combine after blowing away the Final Four.

NBA Draft fever is slowly rolling in as the heat rises in the Alamo City.

Who will the Spurs draft during the first round? With the 18th pick, their highest since drafting Tim Duncan in 1997, CBS Sports has predicted that since the combine some shifts have been made in the pecking order of young talent making their way into the big league.

At this time it is anticipated that the Spurs will choose Donte DiVencenzo from Villanova. For those who watched the Final Four, which took place in San Antonio, you’ll remember the sophomore shooting guard scoring 31 points and carrying his team into a championship. And all while coming off the bench.

While Spurs fans and PATFO are left to ponder the future of Manu Ginobili, finding a young shooting guard with Big East Sixth Man of the Year attached to his list of accomplishments is a move in the right direction. Either way, slotting in to Ginobili’s position or being mentored by the man himself, DiVencenzo would be an excellent addition. The 2-time NCAA Champion also added NCAA Final Four Most Outstanding Player to his resume last month.

Good for the Spurs: his #10 is available and ready. But will all of his accolades cloud his perspective? Can the Spurs afford to draft a champion who thinks the game owes him?

”I view myself as bigger than that one game. I feel like I’ve only scratched the surface of what I can be as a player. I’m still growing and learning.”

Sixth man material, athletic, can hit those 3s, and over himself! What else do we need to know?

Highlights, you say? Why, sure…
