Open Thread: Caution- Defenders on Wemby are larger than they appear
Unedited images of Victor Wembanyama reveal a hilarious perspective
I have a friend from college named Jerry. One night watching basketball, he casually dropped into the conversation, “Yeah, one time I d’ed up Shaq.”
The room burst with laughter. At that particular time, the reigning NBA rookie of the year was as svelte as he would ever be, and still his 7-foot frame was dominating the best big men in the NBA. By comparison, Jerry was 5’9” and 250 lbs. And not 250 NBA pounds — he dressed as Grimace from McDonald’s the previous Halloween. To be clear, Jerry wasn’t even on the college basketball team.
The idea of a pudgy high school junior doing anything near the phenomenon that was Shaquille O’Neal in Texas high school basketball led us to alter his initial share.
“You may have been on the court, but no way you ‘D’ed up Shaq.’ You can say you were high school roadkill if you want to be accurate.”
Seeing images a 5’ 8” basketball player on Victor Wembanyama brought back that memory.

In the above tweet, the height differential is so vast Wemby’s head is cut off.
No doubt Victor Wembanyama is one of the tallest players in the NBA, and the Olympics for that matter. He’s also becoming one of the more dominant big men in the game. The next few years will be insane.
What the head coach of the Japanese national mens team was thinking sending the 5’8” Yuki Kawamura to defend Wemby is beyond me.
But with a height difference of nineteen inches, it’s a wonder Victor even knew he was being guarded.
France earned a 2-1 record and finished second in Group B.
Group C plays today and finalizes the overall standings.
