Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says ‘attitude’ and ‘confidence’ is secret to Manchester United’s top four push

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has hailed the attitude and confidence of his players after back to back 3-0 wins in the Premier League.

United have dispatched Sheffield United and Brighton in the space of a week to move within just two points of fourth-place Chelsea

The club are also just three adrift of Leicester City, who are third, as the three sides and Wolves battle it out for a top four spot and a place in the Champions League.

Solskjaer has been left buoyed by United’s run of form, which sees them unbeaten in their last 14 games, and praised the mentality of his side ahead of Saturday’s clash with Bournemouth.

He told ManUnited.com: ‘They’re fit and they’re confident. When you’re confident it’s so much easier to go into the next one feeling that little bit sharper.

‘We’re getting fitter and fitter the more games we have now. I’ve just been impressed by the attitude and the mentality of everyone.’

With Paul Pogba and Marcus Rashford fit again after long lay-offs through injury, Solskjaer has been able to field the same starting XI for the last two league games and is set to stick with what appears to be his strongest side at Old Trafford.

He added: ‘Yeah. If everyone is fit and available and you perform as well as you did against Sheffield United and Brighton then there are not many reasons to leave players out.’

United face a Bournemouth side fighting to stay in the Premier League after a miserable run of form since the resumption of top flight football last month.

Eddie Howe’s side were beaten 4-1 by Newcastle on Wednesday, a result which leaves them second from bottom – but Solskjaer is still wary of the threat they pose after losing 1-0 to the Cherries earlier this season.

He said: ‘It’s never easy to play against any team in the Premier League and we lost to them away from home. Our next one is [Aston] Villa and we draw against them, then we’ve got Southampton, who we drew against, then we’ve got [Crystal] Palace, who we lost against and also West Ham, who we lost against.’
