On Thursday, September 16, officials recovered the last body of the 10 swimmers reported missing this year from Lake Travis.

The Travis County Sheriff’s Office stated in a news release the man was last seen on August 7. He was found in waters with a depth of 110 feet. Officials said the recovery was dangerous and challenging due to brush, trees, and a steep ledge in that area.

According to witnesses, two men were treading water, waiting for friends to get off a large floating tube, so they could get on. One of the men, who was not wearing a life jacket, was last seen several feet from the tube. Witnesses told authorities a wave went over the swimmer and he never resurfaced.

An autopsy was conducted the morning of September 17, and results, including positive identification, are pending.

TCSO continues to remind swimmers and boaters to make safety a priority and wear their life jackets.
