A 54-year-old man apparently shot himself to death Saturday night in Pleasanton after an hourslong standoff with law enforcement, Pleasanton police said.

Officers responded to the Bonita Creek RV Park on Oakhaven Road shortly before 7 p.m. after receiving a report of shots fired.

Gregory Lee Stanford had allegedly fired a rifle at his wife multiple times in what was determined to be “a domestic violence incident,” but she was able to escape unharmed, police said.

When officers tried to approach Stanford in a trailer, he “threatened to engage” them. “A secure perimeter was established,” police said.

“We attempted to make contact with the subject in the trailer for several hours with no response. The decision was made to make entry into the trailer,” Pleasanton Police Chief Ronald Sanchez told Pleasanton Express reporters at the scene. “He was located in there. He was deceased with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.”

Pleasanton police had requested support from the Atascosa County Sheriff’s Department, the San Antonio Police Department, the Department of Public Safety Highway Patrol Division, and the Texas Rangers, police said.
