NWS: San Antonio likely to see rain after tropical storm hits Gulf of Mexico

San Antonio will likely see rainfall this weekend from Tropical Depression Eight, which formed in the Gulf of Mexico Wednesday night, the National Weather Service said.

The center of the tropical storm system is expected to move inland Saturday, with potential rain most likely hitting the Alamo City Saturday night or Sunday morning.

This is predicted to be a minimal tropical storm, so forecasts predict only about 1 to 3  inches of rain could fall in Bexar County with higher amounts possible, meteorologists said. The core of the storm should stay in South Texas, so it is unlikely San Antonio will experience the heavier rains or wind.

Central Texas has only about a 5 percent chance of flash flooding due to the storm.

Tropical storm season typically runs from June through September, and while the peak is typically in September, meteorologists said it isn’t uncommon to see tropical storms in July.

With the rainfall will also come cooler weather. The NWS predicts San Antonio will see temperatures around the upper 80s to low 90s.
