San Francisco 49ers – QB Jimmy Garoppolo To The Buccaneers?

Rumor: A report earlier in the week linked the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as a likely landing spot for Jimmy Garoppolo, however, according to Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times, there is no truth to that rumor.

Considering the source of the original report, it’s easy to understand why this report has been dismissed outright. And let’s face it, it didn’t make sense to begin with. Tom Brady is the starter. Jimmy Garoppol is on a one-year deal. A contract extension would have to be in the mix for the quarterback who would turn 31 in the middle of next season and is coming off shoulder surgery. In fact, Stroud went on to quote an unnamed Buccaneers coach who said “If (Garoppolo) could throw a deep ball, he would’ve won two Super Bowls already.” That doesn’t sound like a team that views Garoppolo as a long-term solution whenever Brady decides to hang them up for real.

Miami Dolphins – TE Mike Gesicki

Rumor: With the deadline to sign franchise-tagged players to a long-term contract nearing, there appears to be no movement on a new deal for Dolphins tight end, Mike Gesicki, per Mike Garafolo.

Mike Gesicki had a career-high 780 yards on 73 receptions with the Dolphins a year ago but is currently set to play on the franchise tag for 2022. The deadline to sign players to a long term deal is July 15th and in the report from Garafolo, the two sides have not engaged in negotiations.

There is a chance a deal could get done at the 11th hour, however, Gesicki seems destined to play this season on a one-year tag which will pay him well but not guarantee anything long-term. After the acquisition of wide receiver Tyreek Hill, hopes are high in South Beach for 2022 as they look to replicate the success Hill had in Kansas City alongside tight end Travis Kelce. It could be only for 2022 if the two sides can’t come to an agreement before the deadline this week.
