NFL Insider Updates Ongoing Texans HC Search

The Houston Texans are set to enter February without a head coach in place.

The franchise made the somewhat surprising move to fire David Culley after one season and got started on a wide-ranging search for his replacement.

Josh McCown being linked to the job has easily been one of the most shocking storylines in the entire NFL coaching carousel this offseason.

But it turns out he is not landing the job just yet.

NFL insider Tom Pelissero dropped some news Monday afternoon that will have Texans fans happy and potentially relieved.

We have all heard about the link between the Texans and Brian Flores since he was fired by the Miami Dolphins.

Now he is finally getting an in-person interview for the position on the final day of January.

Flores Is The Best Fit

So many rumors said Flores wanted Deshaun Watson in Miami.

Perhaps landing him in Houston ends the trade demand once and for all?

That may not be possible, but it has to be in the minds of those running the organization.

Yet even if Watson still wants out, Flores is an extremely qualified candidate and much more so than McCown.

He posted back-to-back winning seasons with the Dolphins, with his downfall being the way he failed to build proper relationships.

Getting to Houston means he would be working with GM Nick Caserio.

Both worked alongside each other in New England and that type of hard-nosed system could be brought to the Texans.

It usually only seems to work if all sides of an organization agree on the approach.

Flores remains a hot commodity so the Texans have to act fast.

But just getting him in the building should have fans excited if they were worried about the team hiring a head coach with zero prior experience.
