The Dallas Cowboys have a dire need for a left tackle now that Tyron Smith will miss up to three months due to a hamstring injury.
How NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport described the injury means that things are not looking good for Smith.
He mentioned that he might return by December if he returns at all.
Therefore, there’s a chance that Smith will call it quits on his 11-season career.
After all, he has missed games over the last six seasons, especially in 2020 when he had a season-ending neck injury that required surgery.
Likewise, Smith sat out six games last year because of an ankle injury.
If the odds lean towards Smith’s retirement, Dallas must find a long-term solution at left tackle.
They did so by selecting Tyler Smith and Matt Waletzko in this year’s draft.
But they might not be ready to perform right away, especially when they have to face elite pass rushers this season.
In that case, the Cowboys could find a bridge option that can stabilize the situation at least for 2022.
