NFL Insider Reveals A Major Change In Texans Leadership
The Houston Texans are starting to clean house with the dismissal of Jack Easterby, as ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter reported.
The executive who had the ear of team owner Cal McNair was hired in 2019 to be the team’s executive vice president of football operations.
Unfortunately, since his arrival, the team’s performance has gone from bad to worse.
The Texans finished 10-6 in his first year on the job.
However, the exodus of talent from the squad brought them to only four wins in 2020 and 2021.
Easterby also had a hand in the hiring of general manager Nick Caserio and head coach Lovie Smith.
With Easterby gone, the jobs of those men are not secure.
Before joining the Texans, Easterby was the New England Patriots’ character coach from 2013 to 2018.
He was also the Kansas City Chiefs’ chaplain for two years.
Easterby started his NFL front office career as an operations intern for the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Shaking Up The Texans
Easterby’s firing means that Caserio and Smith are on the hot seat, and failing to turn around their current performance will make them jobless.
The Texans have a 1-3-1 record through five games and had a bye in Week 6.
While they won in Week 5 against the Jacksonville Jaguars, they only scored 13 points.
But even if the Texans do not have a roster as talented as the other squads, football executives who would like to make an impact will find the position Easterby once held to be attractive.
His successor can help build a team with massive cap space, and additional draft picks coming from the Deshaun Watson trade.
Making great decisions can bring them back to football relevance by becoming a contender in the AFC South.
