NFL Insider Details Tyron Smith’s Brutal Injury
The Dallas Cowboys suffered a brutal blow to their 2022 campaign after losing Tyron Smith to injury.
That depressing trend started in 2020 when he had an early end to his season due to a neck injury that required surgery.
Last season, ankle injuries forced him to miss six games.
This time, he will be out for a few months because of a hamstring injury.
NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport gave more details about Smith’s condition.
Rapoport tweeted, “#Cowboys standout LT Tyron Smith actually suffered an avulsion fracture of the knee, meaning the hamstring tendon that sits at the back of the knee pulled off the bone, and he needs surgery, sources say. If he’s back at all, it’ll be December. A tough loss.”
Reading that post alone means that Smith is dealing with a painful and complicated injury.
However, Rapoport’s last sentence summarizes the impact of his situation.
Smith has been protecting the blind side of Cowboys quarterbacks since 2011, and he has been great at his job.
In 11 seasons with Dallas, he earned two First-Team and two Second-Team All-Pro selections.
The USC alumnus is also an eight-time Pro Bowler and a member of the 2010s All-Decade Team.
The California native played and started 144 games for the Cowboys.
Addressing Smith’s Absence
The Cowboys do not welcome this development as they gear up for a potential postseason appearance.
After all, left tackle is one of the most important positions in the offensive line, and Smith has been a solid fixture at that spot for over a decade.
With him out of action, the Cowboys will have to find his replacement from Josh Ball, Matt Waletzko, and Aviante Collins.
They need a quick solution because waiting for them in Week 1 are the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
