NFL insider believes Texans have a strong chance to land Sean Payton

One notable NFL insider believes the Houston Texans have a very good chance of acquiring former New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton.

After three straight years posting double-digit losses, including a 3-13-1 result this season, the Houston Texans are again in the midst of a major organizational shift. Following a surprise victory over the Indianapolis Colts to end the season, the team chose to cut ties with head coach Lovie Smith after only one season on the job.

Now, the franchise must try and find the individual that can come in and bring a winning culture back to an organization that has dealt with many lean seasons during its twenty-year existence. So far, the organization has based most of its search around assistants and coordinator candidates from around the league.

The Texans spoke with coveted Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson — before he removed his name from consideration — and have asked permission to talk with top coordinators from the San Francisco 49ers and New York Giants. However, one NFL insider believes they have what it takes to land the biggest name on the market.
