New Braunfels quarterback Leighton Adams recovering after electrocution
The New Braunfels Unicorns starting quarterback is recovering from an incident where he fell from a pole after being electrocuted.

One day before New Braunfels High School’s bi-district football game last week, the team learned it would be forced to play without its starting quarterback, Leighton Adams. On November 10, the Unicorns quarterback was “fighting for his life” after he fell from a 20- to 30-foot pole and was electrocuted by a live wire.
A GoFundMe account that was created by Shelley Minus, a family friend, on behalf of Adams has already raised over $23,000 for the quarterback’s medical expenses. On Wednesday, November 16, Adams was out of the intensive care unit and placed in the progressive care burn unit, according to the GoFundMe.
Adams asked for an extra round of physical therapy on Wednesday and has been working with a Theraband for him to move his arms. He even got out of bed and brushed his teeth, according to the GoFundMe.

The incident left Adams with burns on both his arms and hands, damaged ankle that underwent surgery, and he fractured his L2 and L3 vertebrae, according to the fundraiser. On Wednesday night he was able to get his neck brace taken off.
According to the GoFundMe, CT scans were optimistic and Minus said, “In true Leighton fashion, he has moved so many mountains in these first hours/days, but with these types of injuries, we can only imagine the mountains Leighton will still have to move over the next days, weeks, months, and maybe years!”
On November 12, the day after the accident, New Braunfels won its playoff game against Reagan, 17-13. The Unicorns will now face 11-0 Austin Westlake on Friday, November 18, in the area round of the Class 6A, Division I playoffs.
