New Braunfels ISD superintendent resigns, board president talks future

The search for a new superintendent is underway at one notable Texas Hill Country school district. After serving the New Braunfels ISD students for close to two years, Dr. Cade Smith is stepping down from his position as the district’s superintendent.

Smith submitted his resignation as the New Braunfels ISD superintendent on Monday, March 13. The New Braunfels ISD board of trustees accepted his resignation, according to a social media post.

“We understand and respect his personal decision to resign is not an easy one, and we want to thank Dr. Smith for his hard work and dedication to our district. He was committed to our students and staff,” said NBISD Board of Trustees President Eric Bergquist in the post.

Bergquist stressed the importance of prioritizing a “smooth transition” for students, staff, and the New Braunfels community in the social media post. While the search for an interim superintendent is underway, Kara Bock has been named as the acting superintendent, according to the post.

“We will keep you informed during the entire process of finding a replacement, and we thank you in advance for your patience during this transition,” Bergquist said in the post. “We remain committed to providing our students with the best possible education and we believe in our administrative team, teachers and staff here in New Braunfels ISD.”

Smith was unanimously approved by the NBISD board of trustees on May 10, 2021. Before he came to New Braunfels ISD he was the superintendent at Brock ISD.
