Nature-inspired beer garden opening soon on San Antonio’s Northwest Side

When you combine beer and nature, you get Camp 1604.

Austin-based company KPG Hospitality is bringing a massive new camping-inspired beer garden to the Northwest Side at 5535 N Loop 1604, near major attractions like Andretti Indoor Karting and Top Golf.

Bri Domowitz, a marketing representative for KPG Hospitality, tells MySA the company aims to open Camp 1604 in September. She says they hoped for the summer, but unexpected rain delayed their project.

Camp 1604 features a 4,000-square-foot indoor bar and an 8,000-square-foot beer garden filled with oak trees, picnic tables, and camping chairs.

“It’s going to be a really big complex,” Domowitz says. “We are excited. We hope to bring an atmosphere where it feels like you’re taking your friend to a national park. We want you to have that relaxed feeling you get when you’re looking over mountains.”

For its beer menu, Domowitz says they plan on highlighting a good mix of local and Austin brews. The company is still in the process of trying to find a food truck for its space, Domowitz adds.

In addition to Camp 1604, Domowitz says KPG Hospitality is also opening an outpost of its arcade-style bar Kung Fu Saloon next to its beer garden. Both will share the space on the patio that will have yard games.

“We are coming in hot,” she says. “We have two big complexes coming in right next to each other. I know things are opening frequently in San Antonio, but we really think, with the size and space, it’s going to be a new market for what people are looking for out here.”
