Most valuable squads in Europe revealed: Man United pipped to top spot, Barcelona edge Madrid giants

An insight into the value of the squads boasted by the top clubs across European football has been forthcoming on Monday.

Man City top the pile

The subject of exactly which continental giant is in possession of the most financially valuable panel of players of course proves a hot topic amongst rival fanbases on a regular basis.

With the likes of Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Romelu Lukaku having been on the move this past summer, meanwhile, it has come as little surprise to see the debate reach near-peak levels over the last couple of months.

The Premier League’s increasing financial dominance means that the heavyweights of English football were always likely to come up trumps in the latest findings, and, on Monday, this is precisely what has transpired.

The info comes courtesy of the highly reliable CIES Football Observatory, who, making use of a unique algorithm, have calculated the exact value of the player personnel at each club across Europe’s top-5 leagues.

Topping the pile, unsurprisingly, come Premier League champions Manchester City.

Close behind, meanwhile, are neighbours United, with Champions League holders Chelsea rounding out the podium.

Next up comes something of a surprise entrant, with struggling Barcelona beating out La Liga rivals Real and Atletico Madrid in 7th and 10th respectively.

Germany’s first representative is at 5 in the form of Bayern Munich, with Liverpool, Paris Saint-Germain (surprisingly low in 8th) and Borussia Dortmund also featuring in the top-10.

Amongst the other noteworthy names come Juventus at no. 11, North London rivals Tottenham and Arsenal in 13th and 14th, and Inter beating out San Siro neighbours AC Milan for 17th spot.
