More than 300 employees from five major San Antonio companies spent Thursday packing food and preparing meals at the San Antonio Food Bank, an effort aimed at helping families facing food insecurity during Hunger Action Month.
Volunteers from USAA, H-E-B, Whataburger, the San Antonio Spurs and Accenture took part in the first Honor Through Action Serves Day.
The event was organized through USAA’s, Honor Through Action Corporate Alliance.
Volunteers filled bags and boxes with fresh produce and pantry staples while others worked in the kitchen, helping prepare meals for people in need.
Organizers said the effort focuses on supporting military families and veterans’ groups that can face unique challenges when it comes to food insecurity.
The volunteer day comes as organizations across the country mark Hunger Action Month, a nationwide effort to raise awareness about hunger and encourage people to support local food banks.
The San Antonio Food Bank and its partners are expected to continue highlighting ways the community can help families in need throughout the month.
