Mohamed Elneny’s agent reveals Egyptian set for new Arsenal contract
Elneny’s foreign offers
Arsenal midfielder Mohamed Elneny’s future is up for some debate considering he only has one year left on his deal at the end of the current campaign.
The Egyptian spent last season on loan with Turkish side Besiktas and his agent has come out and said that he has several offers on the table but his preference is to remain in London.
“Leaving to the Turkish league is among the rumours surrounding Mohamed,” said Alan Nazmy.
“The player has a season left on his contract and we are currently working on renewing the contract. The player’s ambitions are to continue [with Arsenal], after earning the confidence of his coach Arteta. This is his first choice.”
“There are several offers for Mohamed. In the coming period, things will be decided, whether to accept one of these offers or continue to line up at Arsenal.”
New deal for Elneny
However, more recently, Nazmy revealed conclusively that the former Basel midfielder will be renewing his deal.
“Elneny will renew his contract with Arsenal. He won’t leave for Galatasaray or Turkey,” he said.
“Elneny has never thought about leaving. He is happy with Arsenal and Arteta trusts him.”
Elneny has been with the club since January 2016 when he arrived for a minimal fee from Swiss side Basel.
Questions will be raised as to whether this is the right move for Arsenal to make. Elneny’s performances would not see him earn a place in the starting eleven of another top 6 side, however, many may argue his usability as a rotation option and utility player make the relatively cheap deal worth it.
If the Egyptian international is willing to sacrifice regular game time to remain with a club of the stature of Arsenal, then it is one less position Arteta needs to concern himself with regarding the addition of depth in the summer.
