“Miraculous process,” Foster Moreau says after cancer diagnosis

Free agent TE and f0rmer Raider TE Foster Moreau has announced he is stepping away from football after being diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Foster Moreau was receiving a routine physical from the New Orleans Saints medical staff on a visit with the team before the diagnosis.

“Through somewhat of a miraculous process, this Free Agency period has been life changing for me,” Moreau tweeted. “During a routine physical conducted by the Saints medical team down in New Orleans, I’ve come to learn that I have Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, and will be stepping away from football at this time to fight a new opponent: Cancer. I’m grateful for the support and thankful for the people who have stood firm with me. There hasn’t been a single step I’ve taken without hundreds of people lighting the path before me, and I will continue to seek their guidance.”

“That being said, I’ll go kick this thing’s ass and get back to doing what I love! AMDG!”

Arizona Cardinals RB James Conner and former Kansas City Chiefs safety Eric Berry are two notable NFL players to be diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma and return to play in the league. The Saints medical staff were also the first to detect a serious heart issue that ultimately ended DT Nick Fairley’s career in 2017.

Moreau was set to leave the Raiders is 2023 after the team traded away Pro Bowl TE Darren Waller and signed TEs Austin Hooper and O.J. Howard in free agency. Had he signed with the Saints, Moreau would’ve reunited with former Raiders QB Derek Carr, who signed with the Saints on a multi-year contract earlier this offseason.
